My husband & I were at a restaurant near Phoenix, AZ when it happened. The lights in the restaurant started swinging and I felt dizzy. I got a video. We were about 300 miles from the epicenter. Thanks for this informational article.

I think you have the dates wrong on the “Ridgecrest earthquake” whose epicenter was actually right under the China Lake Naval Weapons Testing Center. I was living in Barstow, which shook like jello on the days between the two quakes, about three days. The officials gathered in Ridgecrest, a town where most everyone had a security clearance high enough to work with military weapons. The Navy guy shortly said everything “was fine,” even though the epicenter was right under a stockpile of explosives. The USGS lady was missing after the 7.1 quake and everyone was reassuring that the days of shaking were over, as if they somehow knew there would be no large tremors. There wasn’t much damage in Barstow, but more damage in cities much farther away, such as Bakersfield and Redondo Beach. Thr village of Trona right next to the center was devastated and they had a terrible time getting help because they weren’t in Kern County where the town was,?but in San Bernardino County, who was ignoring them. The people of Trona had to organize on Facebook then drive to Ridgecrest and beg for help from Kern County. The Ridgecrest fault that was opened up has had frequently small earthquakes since.
